In Japan, it is traditionally considered unwise to give knives as wedding gifts due to the associations with words like "cut" or "break", which could be seen as inauspicious. It is also a good idea to give a knife with a Japanese five-yen coin. The five yen coin is considered auspicious because its pronunciation, "5 yen (go-en)" sounds like "go-en" which means "fate" or "connection". Additionally, the hole in the coin symbolises "clear prosprcts" and "good fortune flowing through".
