Japanese knives as a wedding gift

Japanese knives as a wedding gift

Hiroki Takahashi |

To someone who is looking for a Wedding gift

- Is this a good idea to give a knife as a gift? -

In Japan, it is traditionally considered unwise to give knives as wedding gifts due to the associations with words like "cut" or "break", which could be seen as inauspicious.  However, knives also symbolise "cutting off misfortune" and "opening up the future", which makes them a meaningful and positive gift choice nowadays. At Kaz's, we do have customers who purchase knives as wedding gifts. Given that knives are practical tools, they can be a welcomed gift for those who enjoy cooking.

It is also a good idea to give a knife with a Japanese five-yen coin. The five yen coin is considered auspicious because its pronunciation, "5 yen (go-en)" sounds like "go-en" which means "fate" or "connection". Additionally, the hole in the coin symbolises "clear prosprcts" and "good fortune flowing through".
